WHY: Organizers say Black History Month is a time to focus on oft-overlooked contributions by African Americans, to the nation’s cultural landscape – and to explore the evolution and richness of gospel music. The story will come to life through dance, drama, instrumental and vocal music. Producer William Pierce says, “The audience will experience the rhythm from the shores of Africa, the moans and cries of our enslaved ancestors’ work songs, and the melodic sounds and intonation of the legendary the ‘Dr. Watts hymn.’ He continues, “They’ll hear the quartet harmonies, learn choir origins, the upbeat sounds of what we refer to as ‘Praise and Worship Teams’, and today’s contemporary Gospel.” Proceeds will benefit the Colon Cancer Coalition.
HOW: Tickets prices are $15 to $35 including student rate and available online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/SOG/5473 or by calling 2nd Chance Outreach at 952-567-3986.
